No bananas this year
I really hope that the Egyptian people get democracy.
But over the past few days my attention has been more focussed on the monsterous cyclone, Cyclone Yasi, that just hit the coast of one of my homes, and where my mother lives, in North Queensland, Australia. Mission Beach to be exact.
A cyclone worse that Katrina, bigger than anything in living memory, just flattened an area much more than 200 miles wide, and is still moving inland as it degrades. And yet all I can find in my news updates from Reuters are stories about the stock and labor markets and their 1% usual oscillations, six people dying amongst 1million protesters in Egypt and some snow in the mid-west that is stopping people from shopping. Not a peep about Yasi. It is really weird.
Here are a couple of photos from my mom’s town, taken from http://www.abc.net.au/news/events/cyclone-yasi/gallery.htm
It should be noted that they tell you to hide in the bathroom with the toilet
