It’s Not Easy Being Green ptII: a simpler (and sweet!) gluten free vegan stomach ache remedy recipe
After m!’s reply to my last (savory) tummy ache remedy, I decided to post another one that I use (apparently my stomach gets upset a lot!), that is much simpler, and utilizes more of the bananas, rice and apple(sauce) of the BRAT diet for ailing digestive systems.
This one is a white rice conjee sweetened by bananas and applesauce.
1 cup cooked white rice (or 1/3 cup uncooked rice)
1-2 cups of rice milk (add an extra cup of water or rice milk if using uncooked rice)
1/2 cup applesauce, or 1 chopped up skinned apple
cinnamon (this is a traditional remedy for upset stomaches)
optional: 1/4 to 1/2 tsp vanilla essence, depending on tastes (it makes it much better!)
Bring the liquid to the boil. Add the rice, and cook it covered until the rice starts to be really soft, and starts breaking up and the liquid gets goopy (this will be quite quick with cooked rice, maybe 10-20 minutes depending on heat, and considerably longer with uncooked).
Add sliced banana, applesauce, vanilla, and a sprinkle of cinnamon. Add the cinnamon slowly to make sure you don’t overdo it, stirring it in and checking the flavor as you go- cinnamon can make things inedible pretty quickly if you add too much! Add more banana or applesauce if you desire more sweetness.
Cook uncovered for a while to soften the bananas and apple, and let the sweetness flow. Adjust consistency by adding more rice milk or cooking longer uncovered if you want it to thicken through evaporation as well as the rice breaking up further.
