a bonus word of the day: lagniappe

As I am going away for four days, I thought I might leave you with an extra word of the day (remember to ration it properly!), and what better word than this?:

lagniappe: n. a small gift, something given or obtained gratuitously or by way of good measure. eg. a vendor throwing in a little extra during a purchase.

This is such a cool concept that I thought I’d throw in the wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lagniappe

Mark Twain said that lagniappe was a word worth going all the way to New Orleans to learn.

And one of my best buddies has a bioinformatics company and blog called http://lagniappeinformatics.wordpress.com/ coz he’s cool!
